WHY CUBE™ ? | Cube Lab

CUBE™ & BANKNOTES

A banknote is a sole-source consumer product and as such has certain
roles to fulfill in order to satisfy its users.

WHY CUBE™ ?

“The User Experience is Key…
Everything else is just noise.”
Steve Jobs – Founder Apple Inc.

Genius in a banknote design

Is when it incorporates the consumer’s perspective, taking into account how they handle, perceive and use banknotes. Consumer understanding should form the bedrock of any banknote development process and a ‘user-centered’ approach to banknote engineering, architecture, content and integration will ensure ultimate project success.

Most banknote vs Cube™

Cube™ exploits the very latest technology, scientific techniques and decades of experience to create a clear picture of what banknote users expect, need, and actually use when they handle their banknotes in typical, everyday situations.

What we do

Cube™ exploits the very latest technology, scientific techniques and decades of experience to create a clear picture of what banknote users expect, need, and actually use when they handle their banknotes in typical, everyday situations.

CUBE™ IN CONTEXT

Banknotes have been designed and produced in muchthe same way for over 60 years. But not any more

Today

Today the banknote landscape consists of a variety of legacy features (offset, intaglio, typography) and some more recent substrate embedded and optically variable features including win- dows, micro-lenses and colour/image changing pigments and threads. The R&D processes behind the development of these features tended to follow the below process.

The Cube™ philosophy argues that the user should not be an afterthought in such development process, but, rather, should play an integral role from the very beginning.

The Cube™ approach is to put the user as the first con- sideration of every project and at each stage of the process. Whether one is developing a new banknote series or innovating security feature technologies, there is no logic in investing substantial sums of money into such projects if the end result is a technically feasible, and graphically complete solution that does not delivers real value to its users.

In summary the Cube™philosophy states that every cen- timeter of the perceptual landscape of the banknote must be justified and deliver a measurable return to the user. Today, scientific methodologies tools and techniques exist to allow us to measure user interaction with a banknote landscape and thereby evaluate and quantify which technologies, features and designs deliver an optimal return to the issuer of banknotes in terms of public acceptance and the ‘user experience’.
